Valerie Piraino is an East African sculptor and writer living on the traditional land of the Esopus people in Lenapehoking (New York City). The varied traditions, lands, and people of the African diaspora are a constant source of inspiration in Piraino’s work. Her work has been shown in numerous exhibitions, commissions, and publications including, After Afropolitan at the Weeksville Heritage Center in New York, the United States Department of State and African Artists: From 1882 to Now by Phaidon, an A-Z survey of the work of over 300 artists born or based in Africa. She self-published her first book, Point of Origin: A Monographic Memoir.
