Eric Garcia, White Lines on Brown Space (2022)

Edition of 50, 17.75 in x 24 in, Printed with Fellow McKinzie Trotta.

This print made in collaboration with Wassaic Project is based on Garcia's site specific installation White Lines on Brown Space, with Wassaic Project's 2022–2023 Winter Exhibition, No Misery Can Tell, No Word of Farewell. White Lines on Brown Space "visually critiques American expansionism and colonialism through a sci-fi, 'alien' lens, using the contrast of white chalk and brown acrylic. The artwork is heavily tied to Garcia's broader artistic themes, which often explore the history of colonization, the U.S. military, and the concept of "aliens".

Eric J. García, a Chicago-based Chicano political artist and printmaker, uses history and a graphic style to create political art that confronts our understanding of the present. Using printmaking, drawings, and installations combined with materials specific to the project, he aims to educate and challenge. He received his BFA with a minor in Chicano studies from the University of New Mexico, and earned his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Garcia is a teaching artist, a core member of the printmaking collective Instituto Gráfico de Chicago, and one of the newest members of the Justseeds Print Cooperative. Garcia has exhibited nationally and can be found in the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Hispanic Cultural Center, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Library of Congress.
