Amanda Lechner is a visual artist born and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She divides her Lives and works in Blacksburg, Virginia. Lechner's studio practice encompasses broad approaches to drawing and painting. She most often employs handmade materials like fresco, egg tempera and ink. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States.
Lechner studied painting at the Kansas City Art Institute (BFA) and at the Rhode Island School of Design (MFA). Upon completing her formal education, she moved to Brooklyn, NY and has since 2014 resided in Santa Fe, New York, Iowa, Indiana and Virginia. She attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2018 and has participated in artist residencies at the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina, Stove Works in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in Amherst, Virginia, the Wassaic Project and Arts Letters & Number in New York State. Lechner has taught painting and drawing at Indiana University - Bloomington, SUNY Purchase and University of Iowa. She currently holds the position of Assistant Professor at Virginia Tech’s School of Visual Art and is a fresco fellow at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
