Duke Riley, A little goes a long way (2025)
We are thrilled to announce Duke Riley’s A little goes a long way, a unique edition offered exclusively by the Wassaic Project on the occasion of our 2025 Summer Benefit.
Duke Riley’s first foray into glass features a Joy dish soap bottle with an illustration of a whale destroying a ship, drawing on his long-standing fascination with both maritime history and single-use plastic pollution. The top of the bottle is marked with two years: 1949, when Joy was founded, and 1962, when they switched from glass to plastic bottles. It merges the aesthetics of early American souvenir culture with Riley’s layered storytelling, which often blurs the line between fact and fiction to explore themes of empire, labor, and the role of the artist in society.
While Riley is known for his ambitious installations and performance works, this edition marks his first foray into glass, a material once synonymous with mass tourism and American naval expansion. Each bottle carries subtle variations.
