Duke Riley received his BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and his MFA from Pratt Institute. Riley is fascinated by maritime history and events around urban waterways. His signature style interweaves historical and contemporary events with elements of folklore and myth to create allegorical histories. Riley was one of the Wassaic Project's earliest artists-in-residence in 2011. His Fly by Night (2016) was named as one of the 100 works of art that defined the decade in artnet news. He also had a recent solo exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum called DEATH TO THE LIVING: Love Live Trash.
